Research Assistant

Boston, MA

This is a three month plus contract with possibility to extend and/or go perm. It will be Monday to Friday 8 to 5 p.m. with occasional weekends. A motivated individual is needed to join our client’s clinical studies in post-transplant graft-versus-host disease, cellular therapy, autoimmune disease such as inflammatory bowel disease, etc. Successful candidate will have meticulous organizational skills, attention to detail, strong work ethics, and ability to learn quickly. The position will work closely with a cross-functional team of clinical staff, bench research scientists, bioinformaticians, etc. Responsibilities include clinical tissue and blood sample processing, inventory management, biorepository, flow cytometry, nucleic acid isolation and quantification, cDNA library construction, etc. - Performs a variety of routine laboratory expriments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy. - Assists in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. - Performs the following techniques typically required for the laboratory/study: • Maintains records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed. • Maintains equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner. • Sterilizes and cleans glassware, prepares media and other materials using appropriate procedures. • Inventories supplies and alerts supervisor to needed supplies. • Processes order for supplies. Attends courses in safety procedures for handling, storage and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive and toxic material. - Conducts literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques to the P.I. Bachelor’s Degree within a STEM major required. Biology or Chemistry major strongly preferred. - Knowledge of molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related fields - Knowledge of safe handling protocols for hazardous materials - Experience in sample processing, flow cytometry, or molecular biology techniques and procedures - Strong organization skills, problem-solving skills, and detail oriented - Able to work with flexible hours, sometimes in late afternoon and evening as needed - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively in a team environment
